The 3 patterns that quietly derail senior leaders

After 18 years of coaching executives across fashion, banking, telecom, retail, and tech. I've seen the same three patterns show up again and again in leaders who are technically brilliant but struggling to have the impact they want.

1. The Competence Trap

You got here by being the smartest person in the room. But at a senior level, that same instinct makes you over-function, micromanage, and burn out. Leadership presence isn't about knowing more, it's about holding space for others to step up.

2. The Invisibility Default

You deliver results, but you're not on anyone's radar for the next big role. Not because you're not good enough, but because you haven't built a leadership brand that speaks without you having to prove yourself in every meeting.

3. The Transition Blind Spot

New role. New team. New expectations. Most leaders try to replicate what worked before instead of adapting to what's actually needed now. The first 90 days of any transition either build trust or erode it.

The good news? These are patterns, and patterns can be changed.

That's what I do at The Pattern Works. Executive coaching for leaders who want to lead with confidence, clarity, and presence.

If any of these resonate, I'd love to hear your experience.
