5 mistakes that kill most streetwear brands before they launch
I've been running my own clothing brand for years and watched hundreds of people try to start one. Most never get past the manufacturing stage.
1. Googling "clothing manufacturer" and picking the first result
Those top results are paying for ads. The best manufacturers don't need Google — they're booked because their work speaks for itself.
2. Not understanding MOQs
If a factory's MOQ is 500 units per style per color and you only have budget for 50, you're wasting everyone's time. There are great low MOQ factories — you just need to know where to look.
3. Skipping sample rounds
Never go straight to bulk. Get samples first. Compare fabric weight, stitching, and fit across 2-3 factories before committing.
4. Ignoring tariffs and shipping costs
That "cheap" overseas factory might not be cheap after import duties, freight, and customs delays. Smart brands source from low-tariff countries strategically.
5. No backup manufacturers
If your only factory goes dark or raises prices, your brand is dead. Always have 2+ factories you trust per product category.
Manufacturing is the hardest part of building a clothing brand. Get this right and everything else gets easier.
